Fifteen Local Students Recognized at Credit Union’s Annual Meeting

Grand Blanc, MI – Dort Financial Credit Union has presented 15 area students with $2,000 scholarships through its annual Harry Awdish Memorial Student Scholarship program.

Dort Financial’s Board of Directors Scholarship Committee announced the winners and presented the 2024 Harry Awdish Memorial Student Scholarships in front of a crowd of over 50 people last week at the credit union’s annual meeting.

The 2024 recipients included Grace Bedell, Kaylee Bedell, Joshua Beller, Kate Burba, Lilly Gembel, Grant Grimes, Kennedy Haworth, Shanterra Holmes, Elizabeth Igram, Collin Ridgway, Payton Rissin, Shelby Sain, Kayvon Sheared, Abigail Smith, and Ella Tupper.

The recipients, who were required to apply for the scholarship, were selected based on a variety of criteria including their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and service to their communities.

“The students also wrote a brief essay explaining what ‘Being Financially Responsible’ means to them,” according to Beverly Kittle, Dort Financial Scholarship Committee Chair.

“The recipients will use their funds as they take the next step in their educational journey to universities and colleges across the nation,” Kittle noted.

“Dort Financial graciously supports our communities through acts of volunteerism, donations and sponsorships, and through the annual scholarship,” said Wayne Natzke, Dort Financial Chairman of the Board. “We are proud to show our commitment to all of our communities, the ones that we have been a part of for decades, also our newer communities.”

In 2023, Dort Financial donated over $275,000 to support our communities, and employees volunteered over 2,200 hours in the community.

“Dort Financial extends a sincere congratulations to all the recipients on their academic achievements and wish them success in their future endeavors,” Natzke added.
