Annual Snowman Sales Raise $19,776 for Two Charities!

We are excited to share the results of the Annual Snowman Sales for the 2022 year. In the six-week campaign collection, running November – December 2022, Dort Financial Credit Union employees and members generously donated $19,776 for two community charities!

Each year, Dort Financial Credit Union team members play a part in choosing which charities will benefit from the fund-raising effort. In 2022, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and the CARE House of Oakland County were selected to be the two recipients of the Annual Snowman Sales fundraiser. Representatives from each charity received checks in the amount of $9,888 each on Monday, January 16^th, during the credit union’s National Day of Service event (link to other article).

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan provides food to member non-profit and charitable organizations in 22 counties. Once food arrives at the Food Bank, it is sorted, inspected, and made available to partner agencies such as churches, soup kitchens, and food pantries to distribute to those in need. All Food Bank partner agencies are required to distribute food, without charges or fees, to needy clients.

The CARE House of Oakland County is a children’s advocacy center, providing first rate services to victims of child abuse and neglect. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency based in Pontiac, Michigan, serving the residents of Oakland County. Founded in 1977 as the Child Abuse and Neglect Council of Oakland County, they currently offer an array of programs focused on the identification and treatment of child abuse victims, and on child abuse prevention.

The Snowman Sales would not be a success without the help from our credit union members who selflessly give to this cause each year. Donations in the amounts of $1 – $50 were collected in exchange for a paper snowman that was displayed at each Dort Financial branch. Members who donate had the option to write their name, a message, or could leave the snowman blank when they purchased a paper snowman.

Dort Financial team members also donated money in exchange for special theme days throughout the year.

Dort Financial Credit Union has contributed to various community organizations and charities with money raised during the Annual Snowman Sales campaign for over 20 years.  The credit union is thrilled with the 2022 campaign amount raised and is thankful to have such a giving community within credit union membership.
